Demand for social housing is very high. We can’t find homes for everyone who applies. Being on the register doesn’t mean you will be successful in getting a property. There are over 27,000 households on the Leeds Homes Register, and over 5,000 of these are in Band A, the highest priority band. Most Band A customers are waiting over 2 years to be offered a home with the council.
What you can do
Use the Advice Aid tool. It can guide you through alternative housing solutions. You could also:
- rent from a landlord or agent
- apply to an independent housing association
- use the House Exchange scheme if you’re already a Council or Housing Association tenant
- contact Citizens Advice Bureau for free confidential, impartial and independent advice
Application processing times
Due to high demand, it’s taking longer than usual to process applications. If you’ve applied online, please wait—we’ll contact you as soon as possible. There’s no need to follow up in the meantime.
