Alternatives to council housing

We advertise Leeds City Council and partner housing association rented homes.

Private rented homes can be accessed separately.  The Leeds Rental Standard is a badge developed by Leeds City Council that ensures a minimum standard is set for private landlords across the city.

Family Information Service through Leeds City Council provides a variery of information to familes regarding topics such as health, education and support.


Together Leeds is a service that is managed through Leeds City Council and offers free advice on ways to help with the cost of living. There is advice and information on ways to help with topics such as your finances, utility bills and information for anyone in Leeds experiencing difficulties accessing food.                                


Community Hubs are centres managed by Leeds City Council, located throughout Leeds where you can find free, confidentail and tailored support under one roof. Staff are able to assist with job applications, money saving tips and budgeting, claiming benefits, accessing free computers and getting online and developing your online skills.


Gipsil provide over 80 properties as supported housing for young people, including care leavers.


St Georges Crypt are a charity from Leeds who offer care, compassion and hope to homeless and vulnerable people and those living with substance dependence. 365 days a year.


Armed Forces Support is a scheme that works in partnership with Leeds City Council and provides support to the armed forces community in Leeds. Some of the support that is provided to regular, reservists, veterans and their familes are; assistance with council tax, school place applications and employment and skills support.

Caring For Life was established in 1987, when a group of Christians saw an urgent need among homeless young people in Leeds. A decision was made to develop a ministry to help these people.


The Citizens Advice Bureau Service offers free, confidential, impartial and independent advice.


The Equality and Human Rights Commission is an independent statutory body with the responsibility to encourage equality and diversity, eliminate unlawful discrimination, and protect and promote the human rights of everyone in Britain. The Commission enforces equality legislation on age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation – these are known as protected characteristics


The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for the Government's welfare reform agenda.  Its aim is to promote opportunity and independence for all.  It delivers support and advice through a modern network of services to people of working age, employers, pensioners, families and children and disabled people.


DrugWise is a UK based site that provides evidence-based information on drugs, alcohol and tobacco as well as new writings and reports. They also an archive of reports, briefings and factsheets produced by DrugScope from 2004-2015 before its closure. Within the site, they have an international knowledge hub to build a library of information from robust international reports and policy material.


Foundation Housing has been leading the development of housing-related services for single homeless people in West/North Yorkshire since 1984. They aim to provide a holistic regional approach to meeting the needs of homeless people and those at risk of homelessness.

National Domestic Abuse Helpline offers information, advice, advocacy and support to women who have experienced violence from a man they know. They support women through exploring rights and options and have a 24 hour help line and facilities to talk to someone on their site.


Job Centre Plus Help and advice on job hunting, making a claim for benefit, helping you to meet your recruitment needs, information for organisations working with and alongside Jobcentre Plus.


LATCH is a self-help housing charity that runs projects working with homeless people and volunteers in Leeds. LATCH supports people to refurbish previously empty, derelict and run-down houses, which eventually become their homes.


Forward Leeds is a service in Leeds providing support for young people, adults, and families who need help with drug and alcohol problems. They have 3 main centres in Leeds.


Leeds Mental Health NHS website provides a wide range of information on mental health and learning disability services available across Leeds.


The Market Place website for young people. The Market Place is based in Leeds City Centre and offers free and confidential services such as advice and counselling to 13-25 year olds in Leeds. is an online site with articles providing information to everyone who is raising kids from babies, toddlers, older kids. They also have articles on health, food, and what to do with children at home and tips for during the holidays.


RELEASE provides a range of services dedicated to meeting the health, welfare and legal needs of drugs users and those who live and work with them.


Rethink working together to help everyone affected by severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, to recover a better quality of life.


Shelter is a national organisation with local solutions working to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people. They provide free, professional and independent advice to over 100,000 people each year throughout England and Scotland.


St George's supports a broad range of Christian ministry and social work in the city centre of Leeds.
