House Exchange site closure
House Exchange will close on 31 July 2026.
We want to reassure customers that Mutual Exchange is not ending. If you're looking to move home through a Mutual Exchange, you can continue to submit applications in the usual way, and any applications already in progress will continue to be processed.
- House Exchange remains available until 31 July 2026
- Existing Mutual Exchange applications are unaffected
- Your tenancy, rent account, repairs and housing services are not affected
- Housing Leeds is working to secure an alternative service and will provide updates when available
- Customer data will not transfer to a new provider and will be deleted in line with data protection requirements.
If you use House Exchange, please make a note of any information or potential matches you wish to keep before the service closes. You will not be able to log in to House Exchange or retrieve any information stored in your account after 31 July.
Your housing office will be able to update you on any existing or potential Mutual Exchange requests, but will not be able to update you on alternatives to House Exchange or the closure of the website.
FAQs
House Exchange is closing, but Mutual Exchange is not. You can continue to use House Exchange until the closure date, and we will provide information about alternative services so you can continue searching for a suitable home swap.
Why is House Exchange closing?
House Exchange is closing because the system has reached the end of its technical life and can no longer be upgraded. The provider, Clarion Housing, has decided to stop operating the service and focus resources on maintaining homes and delivering services to residents.
When will House Exchange close?
House Exchange will remain available until 31 July 2026. After this date, the platform will no longer be accessible.
Will the closure affect my tenancy or housing management services?
No. The closure of House Exchange will not affect your tenancy, housing management services, rent account, repairs service, or any other housing services.
Does this mean Mutual Exchange is ending?
No. Mutual Exchange remains an important option for tenants who want to move home. Only the House Exchange platform is closing; Mutual Exchange opportunities will continue through other arrangements and providers.
Can I still use House Exchange before it closes?
Yes. You can continue to access and use House Exchange until the 31 July.
Will this affect my current Mutual Exchange application?
No. If you already have a Mutual Exchange Application in progress, it will not be affected by the closure of House Exchange. Mutual Exchange applications are processed outside of the House Exchange platform.
Can I still apply for a Mutual Exchange?
Yes. You can continue to submit Mutual Exchange applications to your landlord in the usual way. However, House Exchange will not be available to help find potential swaps after 31 July.
What should I do if I still want to move after House Exchange closes?
Housing Leeds is working to find an alternative provider to House Exchange. We will share further updates as soon as we have them. If you have already submitted a Mutual Exchange application, this will continue to be considered by your housing office, and you can still submit an application for a Mutual Exchange if you have found a swap.
Will my details be transferred automatically to another exchange service?
No. Tenant information will not be transferred to a new provider.
Why do I need to register again with a new service?
House Exchange is required to delete all personal information following the closure of the House Exchange service due to data protection regulations.
What will happen to my personal information?
Your information held on House Exchange will be deleted in line with GDPR and data retention requirements when the service closes.
What do I need to do if I have already found a potential match on House Exchange?
Customers should be encouraged to make a note of any information they may need (including any matches) before the closure date.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
Please contact your local house office if you have any questions.
